New Delhi, November 21 (IANS). Former Union Minister Smriti Irani said that women have immense potential in the Gems and Jewelery Industry and they are leading the way with innovation and development in the sector.
He said this at an event organized by the Gems and Jewelery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) in New Delhi. In this program, the important role of women in driving innovation and development in the gems and jewelery sector was openly discussed.
Irani laid out her vision to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for women entrepreneurs in the industry.
“Women have immense potential in the Gems & Jewelery industry and GJEPC is well placed to identify and nurture the talent of women based on their capabilities,” Irani said.
“From emerging designers targeting export markets to retail entrepreneurs in tier one cities, the industry must implement targeted strategies to nurture talent with exposure to emerging markets, access to financial resources and business schools,” he said. Initiatives like the partnership can empower women to excel in this field, not only uplifting individuals but the entire industry.”
Irani encouraged the Council to focus on research and data collection to enable targeted interventions that benefit women in the gems and jewelery industry. She stressed the need for collaboration with educational institutions such as design and business schools to attract more women into this field.
Along with this, he also highlighted the importance of training women in both domestic and international transactions, which will increase their global competitiveness. Irani asked women to intensify their entrepreneurial efforts to succeed in this dynamic industry.
“Women bring unique creativity and strength to the jewelery industry, and empowering them with opportunities and support will unlock the true potential of this vibrant sector,” said Renu Sharma, Studded Jewelery Panel Member, GJEPC.
The session concluded with a dynamic and engaging interaction between aspiring women entrepreneurs and GJEPC representatives.
The participants discussed the challenges faced in exporting gems and jewellery. It also talked about limited access to resources and financial constraints.
GJEPC informed them about various ways to deal with these challenges and assured them of its continuous support in resolving any issues in the future while reaffirming its commitment to empowering women in the industry.
