New Delhi, 6 April (IANS). The share of women in total bank accounts in the country is 39.2 percent. At the same time, women contribute 39.7 percent of the funds deposited in bank accounts in India. This information was given by the government on Sunday.
The government said that women share 42.2 percent in open bank accounts in rural areas.
There has been an increase in the number of demat accounts over the years, which reflects increasing partnership in the stock market.
From 31 March, 2021 to 30 November, 2024, the total number of demat accounts increased from 3.32 crores to 14.30 crore, which shows an increase of more than four times.
The number of male account holders has been continuously higher than female account holders, but has also seen an increase in women’s participation.
According to the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MOSPI), “The number of male demat accounts increased from 2.65 crores in 2021 to 11.53 crore in 2024, while during the same period the number of female demat accounts increased from 66 lakh to 2.7 crore.”
According to the data, “The percentage of women owned by women in manufacturing, trade and other service areas during the years 2021–22, 2022–23 and 2023-24 has been seen to increase.”
Over the years, the number of startups recognized by DPIIT has increased, with at least one female director, which reflects positive trends in female entrepreneurship. The total number of such startups has increased from 1,943 in 2017 to 17,405 in 2024.
The total number of voters in 1952 increased from 17.32 crores to 97.8 crore in 2024. Also, a strong growth in women’s voter registration has been observed.
The gender equality index (GPI) at primary and higher secondary levels has been continuous, which reflects strong female enrollment. Upper primary and early levels were seen to be fluctuated, but it has been close to equality.
According to the data, the labor force participation rate (LPFR) has increased from 49.8 percent (2017-18) to 60.1 percent (2023-24) in normal conditions for the age of 15 years and above.
