New Delhi, December 31 (IANS). The Indian mutual fund industry has seen strong growth in assets under management (AUM) over the past decade. It has increased by 524 percent to Rs 68.08 lakh crore in November 2024 as compared to Rs 10.9 lakh crore in November 2014.
During this period, the share of SIP accounts in rural and semi-urban areas in the country has increased to 50 per cent and AUM growth in B-30 cities has outpaced that of Top-30 cities.
According to Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) data, AUM of all MF schemes has increased by more than Rs 17 lakh crore this year.
The AUM of the mutual fund industry has increased by more than Rs 37 lakh crore in the last four years.
There was an increase in AUM by Rs 11 lakh crore in 2023, by Rs 2.65 lakh crore in 2022 and by about Rs 7 lakh crore in 2021.
Moreover, the number of folios at the end of November 2024 stood at 22.02 crore.
The number of demat accounts has also increased in the last 10 years. By August 2024, more than 17.10 crore demat accounts had been opened. It was Rs 2.3 crore in FY 2014. The number of demat accounts has increased by more than 650 percent during this period.
On an average, 3 crore new demat accounts have been opened every year since 2021.

Dr. Soumya Kanti Ghosh, Group Chief Economic Advisor, SBI, said, “The number of new demat accounts this year may cross the 4 crore mark.”
He said that except a few states, women’s participation in FY 2025 compared to FY 2022 has increased more than the national average.
Funds raised by Indian companies from capital markets have increased more than 10 times in the last 10 years, from Rs 12,068 crore in FY2014 to Rs 1.21 lakh crore in FY2025 (by October).
A total of Rs 1.21 lakh crore capital has been raised from equity markets through 302 issues in FY 2025 (till October).
NSE market capitalization is expected to grow more than 6 times to Rs 441 lakh crore in FY 2025 (so far) compared to FY 2014.
The SBI Research report said the average trade size in the equity cash segment has increased from Rs 19,460 in FY2014 to Rs 30,742 in FY2025 (so far).
