UGC is now taking a tough stance. Now the prestigious institutions of the country are facing strictness of the University Grants Commission. Many universities are overshadowing the issue like ragging. The UGC has sent a show cause notice to 89 higher educational institutions across the country and put it on the defaulter list. These are the institutions who neither took an anti -ragging affidavit from the students nor submitted an affidavit on time.
IIT and IIM also included in the list
The shocking name in the defaulter list is of top institutions like IIT and IIM. These include IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Hyderabad and IIT Palakkad, IIM Mumbai, IIM Rohtak and IIM Tiruchirappalli. Apart from this, AIIMS Rae Bareli, National Institute of Design (NID) and other major institutions are also on this list.
UGC rules ignored
According to UGC Secretary Dr. Manish Joshi, a reminder was sent to institutions several times by the Commission. Anti -ragging helpline and monitoring agency also alerted, but despite this the institutes failed to take necessary action. He said that it is not only a violation of the rules of UGC, but also tampering with the safety of the students. What is the rule? Under the UGC’s Anti Ragging Regulation 2009, all higher educational institutions are required to take a declaration against ragging from students and their parents at the beginning of each semester. Its purpose is to provide students a safe and harmonious educational environment. Strict action will be taken if these institutions do not follow the rules in the next 30 days, then the UGC can take strict action against them. This can lead to strict steps such as preventing their funding, canceling recognition and ending affiliation. This may also affect their research projects and other financial assistance.
