A disturbing scenario has developed at a government school in Pudukottai area of Tamil Nadu, where almost all the students failed in their recent board examinations due to excessive negligence of teachers. According to the report of the District Education Department, many teachers preferred gossip on their teaching responsibilities and distracting personal attention, making a compromise with the educational future of hundreds of students. In response, strict responsibility policies and punitive processes have been implemented.

Teachers ignoring the responsibility of distracting personal attention

The students who entered the classrooms to study at the Arranthngi Government Model Higher Secondary School for Boys found that the teachers were either bored in the staff lounge or were entangled in their phones. As a result, only 157 out of 264 students of class 12 passed, and only 71 out of 107 students passed in class 10. The performance of class 11 was also not better; 99 students failed the examination. These unsatisfactory results confirmed general neglect in research. Teachers were found to be lost in private matters instead of not participating in meetings and teaching.

To further deteriorate the situation, students were given artificially high interior marks, which shows their excellent educational ability. However, the results of the board examination highlighted the lack of real instructions and preparations.

Initial action and monitoring strategies

The Education Department took fast steps to fix things: Seven teachers were transferred and one was suspended. Now that the old headmaster has retired, the leadership has been handed over to C. Thumarai of Avudaiyarkoil School.

MLA T. Ramachandran called an emergency meeting and set up a WhatsApp monitoring group in an attempt to stop the next failures, including the school management committee (SMC), teachers and community members. Meanwhile, SMC has intervened to assist in teaching initiatives until the appointment of new employees.
