Annual Education Status Report (ASER) 2024 has been released. According to this report, the digital skills of boys are said to be much better than girls. At the same time, girls are competing with boys in many states. The report has revealed that 82 percent of children in the age of 14-16 in rural India know how to use smartphones, but only 57 percent of it has used it for studies. In addition, during the same period 76 percent of children used smartphones for social media.
6.5 lakh children included in the survey
The survey included 605 rural districts, 17,997 villages and about 6.5 lakh children. The report also said that after Kovid-19, there has been an increase in digital awareness and smartphone use among children. Now more than 90% of homes have smartphones and more than 80% of children in the age group of 14-16 are aware of using smartphones. However, only 57% of children use it for educational purposes.
Boys’ digital skills are better than girls
The report also states that boys’ digital skills are better than girls. In most states, boys are more efficient in digital skills than girls. However, in states such as Kerala and Karnataka, this trend seems to be reversed, where girls often perform better than boys. Gender -based inequality in digital literacy remains a significant problem.
The survey shows that boys in digital skills are better than girls, but states need to take steps to reduce this difference. The report also shows that efforts are being made to reduce this difference in some states, while other states still require improvement.
Governments should take this issue seriously and make plans to improve digital literacy. According to the report, if governments and education systems work in this direction, then all children can get equal opportunities in digital education, which can improve their future.
