It is not decided who will make regular appointments of teachers in the state’s 403 aided Sanskrit colleges and 570 secondary Sanskrit schools. On 28 March 2018, after amending the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Sanskrit Education Council (Appointment and Service Conditions of Principals of Institutions, Teachers and Other Employees of Institutions) Regulations-2009, the government had given the authority to select teachers in aided Sanskrit schools to the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Service Selection Board. In 2019, the Secondary Education Department had sent a requisition for the appointment of 1282 teachers in Sanskrit secondary schools.
Similarly, the responsibility of appointing teachers in colleges was given to the Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Service Commission. Both these institutions have been merged with the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission formed last year. The newly formed commission’s chairperson Prof. Kirti Pandey says that the commission has not been given the responsibility of appointing Sanskrit teachers. In such a situation, the question is through which medium regular teachers will be selected in these institutions. Due to the delay in the appointment of regular teachers, teachers are being selected on contract in aided Sanskrit secondary schools since 2019.
Nearly half of the teaching positions are vacant
Almost half of the posts of teachers in Sanskrit schools and colleges are vacant. According to the report presented in the meeting held in the government on 17 March 2023, out of 2085 created posts of teachers in aided Sanskrit secondary schools, 1064 were working and 1021 were vacant. Out of 570 created posts of principals, 263 were working and 307 were vacant. Out of 403 posts of principals in colleges, 154 were working and 249 were vacant and out of 1889 posts of teachers, 960 were working and 929 were vacant.
