The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has approached the higher education regulator regarding universities starting admissions to undergraduate courses without waiting for class 12th results. The board has requested the University Grants Commission (UGC) to instruct all higher education institutions to plan their admission calendar keeping in mind the date of declaration of CBSE results. According to UGC sources, the regulator will issue advisory to all universities next week.
The board, in a letter dated June 28 to the UGC, wrote, “It has come to notice that some universities in India, especially Maharashtra, have started registration of undergraduate courses for the session 2022-23 and their last date is before July. is in the week. It is requested that all the universities be directed to fix the last date for the undergraduate admission process keeping in view the date of declaration of CBSE 12th result. The board also said that it takes about a month to prepare the result.
The CBSE’s letter comes in the wake of the Mumbai University (MU) starting admissions to undergraduate programs in degree colleges without waiting for the Indian School Certificate Examinations and 12th results. Most of the city colleges affiliated to MU have declared their second merit list on Thursday. Students who have secured seats are expected to confirm their admission by July 13. At the same time, the third merit list will be released on July 14.
When Mumbai University announced its admission schedule last month, it was anticipated that the CBSE and ISC results would be out by the time the second merit list was released. As the results are yet to come, students are worried about losing seats in the colleges of their choice. MU has also been criticized for causing harm to a section of students. However, the university has justified its move saying that a very small percentage of CBSE and ISC students take admission in the university. The university has announced that the application window will be reopened after the CBSE and ICSE results are out.
Mumbai University has always started the admission process after the declaration of Maharashtra State Board Result. Earlier the state board results were declared only after the release of CBSE and CISCE results. Because of this, students of two national boards used to get an opportunity to take admission in MU colleges. Last year, the state board results were declared on August 3. At the same time, in the year 2020, the results came on 16 August. Both the year the state board results were declared only after the CBSE and ISC results. At the same time, this year the result of Maharashtra Board has already been released.
