A very important news has come out from the country’s capital Delhi. CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) has now issued instructions to all schools to set up ‘Sugar Board’. The purpose of creating ‘sugar board’ in schools is to prevent diseases like increasing diabetes and high blood pressure in children studying here.
Regarding this decision, Dr. Reema Dada, Professor of AIIMS Delhi and in -charge of the Media and Anatomy Department, has described it as a very important and commendable step. He said that today 10-year-old children are also suffering from serious diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure and the biggest reason for this is their unhealthy food habits.
CBSE wants schools to have a board that monitors children’s diet, especially sugar intake. According to the report, children should not consume more than 5% of their total calories daily, but nowadays children are consuming up to 15% of sugar which is dangerous for their health.
According to Dr. Reema Dada, “Children’s immunity is decreasing. Both parents and children are unaware of proper nutrition. They do not know that too much sugar, junk food and packaged drinks are gradually harming their children’s body.”
This instruction of CBSE also states that healthy food options should be provided in the school canteen. Take fruits, juices and light nutritious snacks instead of things like chips, cold drinks and cakes.
Dr. Dada said that healthy food is important not only for physical health but also for mental health. A healthy diet increases the attention of children, reduces stress and increases their interest in studies.
