The Union Health Ministry has approved the starting of MBBS courses in five new medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh. Apart from this, the number of seats in the medical colleges of Kanpur Dehat and Lalitpur has been increased from 50 to 100. After this, now 600 new MBBS seats have been added, taking the total number of new seats in the state to 1,200 for the academic session 2024-25.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had spoken to Union Health Minister JP Nadda, after which the principals of medical colleges filed an appeal with the National Medical Commission (NMC). After which seven medical colleges got recognition in the first appeal. Out of 11,200 MBBS seats, 5,150 seats are in government medical colleges and 6,050 seats are in private medical colleges.
DG Medical Education Kinjal Singh said, “The department has recently submitted an appeal to the Union health ministry requesting approval for 100 MBBS seats in autonomous state medical colleges in Auraiya, Chandauli, Gonda, Lakhimpur Kheri and Kaushambi. Besides, we sought permission to increase MBBS seats from 50 to 100 in Kanpur Dehat and Lalitpur. The ministry has approved 100 seats, adding 600 MBBS seats to all these medical colleges.”
