Under the important initiative in the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP), in the coming days, students can obtain higher education degree by completing credit points before the stipulated time. The credit framework is being made in such a way that if the student wants, he can complete the degree of three or four years earlier. Along with starting new employment based courses for higher education, the degree is also being made rational in terms of learning. This information was given by Sunil Kumar Barnwal, Additional Secretary, Union Ministry of Education (Department of Higher Education) in a program organized at IITM regarding Swayam portal and online courses.
Sunil Kumar Barnwal said that NEP is not just a document that tells what the Government of India is going to do, but it is a vision document that what the country wants to achieve. Therefore, not just the government, but every institution related to education and research is a part of this journey. Barnwal said, if a student gets the required credits, he can think of completing his degree before three or four years.
Focus not only on the institute but also on the students The Ministry of Education believes that the focus of NEP is not only on the institute but also on the students. Therefore, it includes the flexibility to complete the course online and on other platforms while expanding the reach of campus.
