Gandhi Jayanti speech 2024: You can give this speech on Gandhi Jayanti
… Respected Principal Sir, teachers and my friends…
The great scientist Albert Einstein had said about Gandhiji that “Future generations will find it difficult to believe that such a person made of flesh and blood ever came to earth.” Today is 2nd October and not only the whole of India, but the whole world is celebrating Gandhi Jayanti. She is paying tribute to Bapu by bowing down. His great thoughts, struggle and his huge contribution in achieving independence are being remembered. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who played a very important role in giving India independence from the British by following the path of truth and non-violence without taking up arms, was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat.
Due to the greatness of Mahatma Gandhi, his works and thoughts, October 2 has been given the status of a national festival like Independence Day and Republic Day. Gandhiji believed that you can never get your rights by following the path of violence. Bapu’s thoughts regarding truth and non-violence have always been guiding not only India but the entire world. In honor of his thoughts, International Day of Non-Violence is also celebrated every year on 2 October. You can gauge the popularity of Gandhiji around the world from the fact that today there are his statues in many countries of the world including America, Japan, Britain, Germany, Japan, China, Russia. His ideas were accepted everywhere.
Gandhiji received his primary education from Rajkot. He was only 13 years old when he was married to Kasturba of Porbandar, who later supported Bapu in various movements. After school education, Gandhiji went to London to study law. After obtaining a barrister degree from London, he did not consider it appropriate to become a big officer or a lawyer, but dedicated his entire life to the country. In his life he organized many movements against the British rule. He always kept fighting for the rights of the people. Champaran Satyagraha, Non-Cooperation Movement, Dandi Satyagraha, Dalit Movement, Quit India Movement were some of their major movements which played a big role in weakening the foundation of the British Empire. He, along with the people of the country, showed the way to the British rule, about which it was said that the sun never sets, back to foreignness by remaining firm on restraint and principles.
Gandhiji continuously raised his voice against the evils like untouchability prevalent in the Indian society. He wanted to create a society in which all people would have equal status because everyone was created by the same God. They should not be discriminated against. He always strived for women empowerment. He inspired millions of Indians and people around the world to fight for their rights and freedom through non-violence.
Friends, on Gandhi Jayanti we should resolve to adopt the ideas of Gandhiji. This is the right time to realize the vision of self-reliant India by adopting Swadeshi. Youth and children should be told the importance of indigenous things. Today we should take a pledge to keep all public places including home, neighbourhood, railway station, tourist places clean. Friends, Gandhiji used to say that cleanliness is the second most important thing after devotion. This is the reason why every year the government runs a large-scale cleanliness campaign on Gandhi Jayanti.
All the dreams of Mahatma Gandhi will be fulfilled when we follow his ideals like peace, non-violence, truth, equality, respect for women. Gandhi’s thoughts are not just for one era but his thoughts are the heritage of humanity for eternity.
I would like to conclude my speech with a few lines
Gave us freedom without sword and without shield
Saint of Sabarmati you have done wonders
Gandhi, your torch kept burning even in the storm.
Saint of Sabarmati you have done wonders
Thank you. Jai Hind!
