GOA MBBS SEATS: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has given permission to increase 200 MBBS seats in Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said. Earlier, GMCH was approved for 150 seats for MBBS course. Briefing the media, Vishwajit Rane said that increasing the number of MBBS seats in GMCH from 150 to 200 is a major milestone in the journey of providing quality medical education and healthcare services.
He said, “For the academic year 2024-25, we have received the letter of permission from the National Medical Commission, approving the increase of our MBBS seats to 200. He also said that the increase in seats is an important step towards increasing the capacity of the state-run institution and allowing more students to fulfill their desire to become skilled medical professionals.
Approval has also been given to increase seats in several postgraduate MD/MS courses, Rane said. He said seats for MD (Radiodiagnosis) have been increased from six to seven, MS (General Surgery) from six to 15, MS (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) from six to eight, MD (Pharmacology) from four to six and MD (Paediatrics) from seven to ten. The Goa health minister said the increase in seat capacity reflects the government’s commitment to promote medical excellence and meet the growing healthcare needs of the region and beyond. “Goa Medical College is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of medical professionals by providing state-of-the-art medical education,” he said.
