Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University (SLBSNSU) is an important educational institution located in the capital of India. It works for the preservation and promotion of Sanskrit language and classical science. It started in 1962 as Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Ved Vyas College. In 1987, it got the status of Deemed University and in 2002 it was named Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth. It was named in honor of former Prime Minister of India, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri. In 2020 it was declared an institution of national importance under the Central Sanskrit University Act.

For admission to this university, students will have to take the CUET (Common University Entrance Test) exam. There are different eligibility criteria for different courses, such as Shastri (Graduate) required to pass 12th grade, a bachelor’s degree for Acharya (Post Graduate), and a postgraduate degree for Vidyavaridhi (PhD). Basic knowledge of Sanskrit is necessary for most courses.

The fee per semester for PhD is around Rs 8,000 to Rs 15,000. Scholarship and financial assistance is also available for meritorious students.
