The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Tuesday urged the government to consider interim measures regarding the commencement of the counseling process for NEET PG 2024 to protect the interests of both students and the healthcare system. IMA has written to Union Health Minister JP Nadda, drawing his attention to the growing concerns and uncertainty over the delay in the counseling process of NEET PG 2024, which is currently stalled due to a case pending in the Supreme Court.
The doctors’ organization said, ‘The delay in the counseling process is causing immense trouble to thousands of NEET-PG candidates across the country.’ IMA said in the letter that these people, who have worked hard to qualify for postgraduate medical seats, Candidates have been facing uncertainty about their future for a long time due to judicial proceedings.
This is also impacting the functioning of health care institutions, as timely entry of postgraduate students is of utmost importance to ensure availability of medical professionals in hospitals and medical colleges.
“We fully respect the judicial process and the need for legal clarity, but IMA believes that it is necessary for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to intervene and explore possible solutions to ensure that It can be ensured that the academic and professional future of the students is not adversely affected.
Prolonged delays could cause significant disruption to the academic calendar, impacting the overall training and deployment of specialist doctors in the country, at a time when the healthcare system is already under pressure.
