Becoming a professor is the dream of many people. However, to make this dream come true, people have to work hard and pass many stages of examination. NET (National Eligibility Test) is also one of them. However, now UGC (University Grants Commission) is preparing to change its rules.
UGC draft guidelines
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has released the draft guidelines of UGC, according to which there will be no need to take NET exam to become an Assistant Professor. This change has been made to ease the appointment of professors in universities.

Releasing the draft rules at the UGC headquarters in Delhi, Dharmendra Pradhan said that this draft will not only bring innovation in higher education but will also provide momentum. This will empower teachers and educational institutions. This is a progressive step towards strengthening higher education.
What does the Old Testament say?
Let us tell you that these new rules will replace the rules of 2018. As per the 2018 rules, it was mandatory to qualify the UGC-NET exam after PG to become a professor. But now people will be able to become Assistant Professor even without giving NET. For this, candidates will only need to do PG.
UGC Chairman explained the rules
UGC Chairman M Jagadish Kumar says that the 2018 rules are before the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020. Now this new rule has been brought keeping in mind NEP 2020. This will provide opportunities to the best talents in higher education institutions. According to Jagdish Kumar, NEP 2020 supports multi-learning. This will provide opportunities to teachers coming from different subjects. However, to become a professor, one will still need UG, PG and PhD.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has issued new guidelines of UGC, which is also available on the UGC website. These guidelines contain all information including educational qualification and experience for appointment of academic staff to the Vice-Chancellor.
How to become an assistant professor?
According to the new draft rules, to become an assistant professor, it is mandatory to have a 4-year UG degree with 75% marks or PG degree with 55% marks. Apart from this, the candidate should also have a PhD degree.
