The son of a daily wage labourer from Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh passed JEE Advanced with great hard work. He had to take admission in IIT Dhanbad, but due to poverty, he could not deposit the fee of Rs 17,500 on time and lost his seat. The Supreme Court has assured the student of all possible help. A bench of Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra told 18-year-old student Atul Kumar that we will help you as much as possible, but what were you doing for the last three months because the deadline for depositing the fee has expired on 24 June itself. The bench issued notice to IIT Madras on the petition filed by student Atul Kumar demanding admission in IIT Dhanbad. This year JEE Advanced was organized by IIT Madras. The bench has issued notice to IIT, Madras and JoSAA and sought a reply. JoSAA and IIT Madras have to respond by 30 September.
If help is not received, the student will not be able to take the exam again, this was the last attempt
The advocate appearing for the student told the bench that the petitioner is the son of a daily wage laborer in Titora village of Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. The advocate told the bench that the family is living below the poverty line. The bench was told that the petitioner Atul Kumar cleared JEE Advanced in his second and last attempt and was allotted a seat in IIT Dhanbad. But he lost his seat due to not being able to deposit the college fee of Rs 17,500 till the last day. The advocate said that if the student does not get help from the apex court, he will not be able to appear in the exam again.
Went to every door, didn’t get any help
After this, Chief Justice Chandrachud said that we will help the student in every possible way. The advocate said that the student’s parents also approached the National Scheduled Caste Commission, Jharkhand Legal Services Authority and Madras High Court to save the seat. He said that after not getting help from anywhere, they have approached the apex court.

It is difficult to arrange 17500 rupees
The court was told that help was sought from Jharkhand Legal Services Authority because the JEE exam was given from an examination center in Jharkhand. The apex court was told that it was very difficult for a poor student to arrange Rs 17,500 by 5 pm on June 24, just 4 days after the seat was allotted in IIT, Dhanbad.
Even the National ST Commission did not help
The Supreme Court was told that even the National Commission for Scheduled Castes did not help the student in any way. The Madras High Court had suggested the student to go to the Supreme Court. The student went to the Madras High Court because this year the exam was conducted by IIT Madras.
