Bhagat Singh Birthday, Facts about Bhagat Singh: Today is the birth anniversary of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, who happily sacrificed his life for the freedom of the country. The great revolutionary Bhagat Singh was born on 28 September 1907 in village Baoli in district Lyallpur (now in Faisalabad, Pakistan). Bhagat Singh’s personality and his dynamic thoughts are still alive in our minds and his inspirational thinking is inspiring the youth. On one hand, Bhagat Singh ji worked to bring the foreign rule to its knees with his patriotism, while on the other hand, with his ideas, he worked to unite the divided India in the struggle for freedom. His ideas further strengthened the wave of independence across India. Even today every Indian takes inspiration from his way of life and thoughts.

Know special things related to the life of Bhagat Singh here-

1. Bhagat Singh was born in Banga of Laipur district in Punjab province on September 28, 1907 to father Kishan Singh and mother Vidyawati. This place is now in Pakistan. Bhagat Singh’s grandmother named him Bhagaan Wala (one of good fortune), later he came to be known as Bhagat Singh.

2. Bhagat Singh’s father Kishan Singh, uncle Ajit Singh and Swaran Singh were freedom fighters. Bhagat Singh studied at DAV High School, Lahore. When the non-cooperation movement started under the leadership of Gandhiji in 1919, Bhagat Singh was in 7th class. At the age of 15, he started participating in secret revolutionary activities. 3. On 13 April 1919, the day of Baisakhi, a meeting of the countrymen took place in Jallianwala Bagh in protest against the Rowlatt Act. Due to the cruel and oppressive orders of British General Dyer, British soldiers fired indiscriminately on unarmed people. This atrocity further fanned the fire of revolution across the country. This mass murder had a deep impact on 12 year old Bhagat Singh. He swore on the blood stained soil of Jallianwala Bagh that he would raise the trumpet of freedom against the British government. He left Lahore National College and founded ‘Naujawan Bharat Sabha’.

4. Bhagat Singh along with Sukhdev and Rajguru carried out the Kakori incident.

5. Bhagat Singh, along with Rajguru, had killed British officer JP Saunders, who was Assistant Superintendent of Police in Lahore, on 17 December 1928. Chandrashekhar Azad had fully helped him in this.

6. Bhagat Singh, along with his revolutionary friend Batukeshwar Dutt, threw bombs and pamphlets in the auditorium of the then Central Assembly of British India located at Alipore Road, Delhi on 8 April 1929 to awaken the British government.

7. Bhagat Singh was a Sikh by birth, he shaved his beard and cut his hair to avoid being identified and arrested for murder. He managed to escape from Lahore to Calcutta.

8. Bhagat Singh’s slogan ‘Inquilab Zindabad’ became very famous. He used to mention it in every speech and article.

9. Bhagat Singh was sentenced to death on 7 October 1930, which he obeyed with courage.

10. Bhagat Singh was scheduled to be hanged on 24 March 1931, but the British were so scared that they hanged him 11 hours earlier at 7:30 pm on 23 March 1931.
