Dr. APJ Kalam was the 11th President of the country. Kalam’s birthday, known as the Missile Man of the country, is known as World Students Day. Dr. Kalam was born on 15 October 1931. He was the President of India from 2002 to 2007. On October 15, 2010, the United Nations announced to celebrate the birthday of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam every year on October 15 as World Students Day. The United Nations declared October 15 as World Students Day to honor the birthday of Dr. Kalam, carry forward his legacy and promote the values espoused by him. A proponent of education, Dr. Kalam believed that it was students who had the potential to bring about meaningful change in the world. Dr Kalam was born in Rameshwaram in a Tamil Muslim family. Dr. Kalam had average grades during his school days, but he was always ready to learn and was a diligent student. Dr. Kalam received several awards, including the Padma Bhushan in 1981, the Padma Vibhushan in 1990, and the Bharat Ratna for his contributions to the field of research, science, and his work with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and defense research.
