Madhabi Puri Buch: Madhabi Puri Buch has been appointed as the new chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). He has replaced Ajay Tyagi. She is the first woman, who has been entrusted with this important responsibility in SEBI.
She will be the 10th chairman of SEBI and will serve in this position for 3 years. Ajay Tyagi was holding this important post before Madhavi. Tyagi is a 1984 batch IAS officer. Monday was the last day of his term in office.
Madhavi has done her graduation from St. Stephen’s College and MBA from IIM Ahmedabad. She has previously served as a former member of SEBI. He worked in SEBI from April 2017 to October 2021. During this time he handled portfolios such as Monitoring, Collective Investment Planning and Investment Management.
He started his career with ICICI Bank and served as MD & CEO at ICICI Securities till 2011. She ended her services with the bank in 2011 and moved to Singapore in the same year. Here he joined LLP.
Madhavi’s latest agenda will be to look into the NSE colocation scandal and cases related to Chitra Ramakrishna, former MD and CEO of NSE. The regulator is already facing criticism for not taking adequate action to punish the culprits in the colocation case. CBI investigation is still going on in this.
