Delhi News Desk !!! The National Medical Commission had ordered the inclusion of sodomy and homosexuality in the curriculum on August 31. Reversing this order, now it has been ordered not to teach sodomy and homosexuality to medical students considering them unnatural sexual crimes. The commission said that it has been decided to include sodomy and homosexuality in the curriculum of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology under Competency Based Medical Education (CBMI) 2024.
Instructions cancelled
For this, the National Medical Commission has issued a letter. It states that the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) Curriculum Guidelines 2024 have been withdrawn. It is informed that the guidelines issued under the Competency-Based Medical Education Curriculum (CBMI) 2024 in the circular dated 31.08.2024 are withdrawn and canceled with immediate effect. The above guidelines will be revised and uploaded in due course.’ Dr. Satendra Singh, Co-Chairman of the International Council for the Inclusion of Disability in Medical Education, also posted. He wrote, ‘The NMC curriculum has been withdrawn for the time being. We must wait to see what happens next and we cannot stop here, as the NMC has a history of taking many U-turns.
Apart from sodomy and homosexuality, the NMC brought back topics such as the hymen and its types, and its medico-legal significance, besides defining virginity and impurity, validity and its medico-legal significance. These topics were removed in 2022 following a Madras High Court directive.
What is sodomy-homosexuality?
Sodomy refers to specific sexual acts between heterosexual or homosexual individuals. Sodomy includes oral and anal sex. Sodomy also includes sexual activity between a person and an animal, also known as bestiality.
