The Education Minister said that the government is receiving many complaints that some private school are pressurizing the parents to buy uniforms and books only from the shops with which the school is contract. It is against the financial interests of students and parents and will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The Delhi government has issued strict guidelines on the sale of books, uniforms and other educational materials by private schools. (Education News for School Assembly) Delhi Education Minister Shri Ashish Sood today announced that the government has taken this decision after complaints of many parents and students.
He said that it has been observed that many private schools are forcing students to buy books, manuals, tie, belt, notebooks, uniforms and bags from specific vendors. This is not only inappropriate but also a violation of the rights of students and parents.
Schools must ensure transparency
The minister said that all private recognized schools should ensure that they clearly display the list of prescribed text books, educational materials and essential commodities on your official website and notice board in the school premises. If a school is found guilty of hiding this information or giving wrong information, then legal action will be taken against it.
The main point of the new guidelines:
Nine important notifications have been issued by the Director of Education under Delhi School Education Act 1973 and Delhi Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2011:
1. Parents will not be obliged to shop from a specific seller.
2. Schools will have to upload a list of books and uniforms on their website before every academic session.
3. Schools should ensure that there is no pressure on students and parents to buy additional study materials.
4. A list of essential educational materials should be displayed in public places in the school premises.
5. Strict action will be taken against schools that do not follow the guidelines.
Helpline number released for complaints
The Delhi government has requested parents and other stakeholders to file a complaint from Deputy Director (PSB) Mr. Manish Jain on email ddeact1@gmail.com or on helpline number 9818154069 if they find a school in violation of these guidelines. The government also clarified that if a school violates these rules, action will be taken against it under the Delhi School Education Act, 1973. Additionally, necessary disciplinary action will be taken under BNS and BNSS. The Delhi government is committed to making education accessible and cheap and appeals to the parents to inform the concerned authorities about any irregularity.
