Students taking admission in online courses will now first have to register on the UGC-DEB (Distance Education Bureau) portal. After this, the student’s DEB ID will be ready. Unique DEB ID can be created from Academic Bank of Credit (ABC-ID). UGC has said in the notice that some higher education institutions are enrolling students in unrecognized open and distance learning and online courses. Students do not get any benefit from such online degrees.
UGC Chairman Prof. M Jagadeesh Kumar has said that some institutes were enrolling students in unrecognized online courses, which is a big risk for the future of the students. Just like a standard process is followed in regular courses, now an important change has been made for the enrollment process of online courses as well.
He said that students who want to enroll in online courses will first have to register on the Distance Education Bureau portal. This process will be implemented from the academic session 2024-25.
