“Those who searched found three, penetrated deep into the water,
“I am scared of Bapura Budan, I remain sitting on the side.”

The meaning of this couplet of Saint Kabir is that the person who works hard gets success, but the person who does not take a dip in water and sits on the shore due to fear of drowning, does not achieve anything.

IAS officer K. Jaiganesh has made this couplet true. Have you ever heard that a person’s courage did not waver even after failing 6 times? Has anyone passed the UPSC exam by fulfilling every responsibility? Can a waiter also become an IAS officer? IAS answers all these questions. The success of Jaiganesh is hidden in the story.

Of. Jayaganesh is a resident of Vinnamangalam area of Tamil Nadu. He comes from a very poor family. He is the eldest among four siblings. He took admission in Polytechnic College from his village after studying till eighth class. He passed Polytechnic by scoring 91 percent marks. After this he took admission in Mechanical Engineering at Thanthi Periyar Institute of Technology. After completing his studies, he got his first job in a company, where he got only Rs 2,500 as salary every month. Of. Jaiganesh also had the responsibility of his family, so he felt that he would have to find another government job so that he could meet his household expenses. Meanwhile, he also worked as a billing clerk in Satyamev Cinema Hall. During this time he failed to pass the UPSC exam in his first attempt. After which he worked as a waiter in a restaurant, so that he could meet the financial needs of the house. He used to return at night from his job as a waiter and used to study regularly every day.

He gave six attempts of UPSC and failed in either Prelims or Mains exam every time but he never gave up. Kept busy preparing for UPSC. Meanwhile, he was also selected in the Intelligence Bureau, but he rejected that job and chose to appear for the UPSC exam for the seventh time. This time his hard work bore fruit and he got 156th rank in the Civil Services Examination in 2008. It is said that determination definitely takes a person to his destination and poverty can never become a hindrance in anyone’s success.
