On Friday, a female lawyer was allegedly beaten by a sarpanch and his supporters in Beed district of Maharashtra, as he complained to the police of noise pollution. Opposition parties criticized the Devendra Fadnavis government for failing to ensure the safety of women. The police officer said that advocate Gyaneshwari Anjan was beaten badly this morning by the village head and his supporters in Sangav of Ambajogai tehsil with pipes and wooden sticks. Pictures of a serious injury on her back shared by the victim went viral on social media, causing outrage among the Neutzans and political leaders. The Yusuf Vadgaon police station official said, “The victim, who practiced in the Ambajogai Sessions Court, objected to the noise coming from the nearby temple and complained to the police, after which he was attacked. A case has been registered against 10 people in connection with the attack. No one has been arrested yet.” Reacting strongly, Maharashtra Congress chief Harshvardhan Sapkal said, “This incident is proof that the BJP -led government has failed to ensure the safety of women. A female lawyer practicing in Ambajogai court was taken to a field by his village sarpanch and his activists, beating him with sticks and iron pipes. She fainted and remained unconscious and remained in the hospital for some time.”
