Development of one’s own language, poetry – Bharatendu Harishchandra
Developing one’s own language is the key to every development
Without knowledge of one’s own language, the pain in the heart cannot be removed.
Even after studying English, one becomes proficient in all qualities
But without knowledge of one’s own language, one remains as inferior as the inferior.
Progress is complete only when home is progress
Everyone improves his body and remains foolish.
– Bharatendu Harishchandra
Even parrots say Ram-Ram, poem by Maithilisharan Gupt
In my language even parrots say Ram-Ram.
It seems as if springs of nectar flow from every pore of my body.
Even if I leave everything, I will never leave my language.
She is my mother, how can I break my ties with her?
Even if I am alone someday, I will not think about it.
I will sing English songs there in my language.
I will easily find a companion there.
It will resonate with me, the lotus of your heart will bloom.
— Maithali Sharan Gupt
Poem that resonated in the English world – Atal Bihari Vajpayee
echoed in the hindi world
It echoed in the English world,
The dream came true;
From the platform of the League of Nations,
Cheers to English;
Cheers to English,
Spoke in English;
See love for one’s own language,
The world was astounded;
Says the prisoner poet,
Mem’s illusion was broken;
Blessed is Mother India,
A river of affection burst forth!
– Atal Bihari Vajpayee
The adornment of the forehead, poem – Dr. Jagdish Vyom
English is the adornment of Mother India’s forehead
English is the spring of the garden of Hindustan
My mother fed me a mixture of gruel
The voice is bursting out, that is Malhar in English
For Tulsi, Kabir, Sur and Raskhan
English is the stream that flows from Brahma’s kamandal
Talking about principles will not do any good
Will you adopt English in your daily life?
When the boat gets stuck in a stormy whirlpool
That day it will take you across, that rudder is English
I agree that it has been kept in the constitution but
Today English is torn apart between the pages
The sky trembles on hearing your sigh
When the time comes, this English will become a sword
-Dr Jagdish Vyom
A great 2 minute speech on English Diwas, you will remember it easily
English is the language of the people, poem – Girija Kumar Mathur
The one string that ties everyone
he is hindi,
Who considers every language as her real sister
That is English.
All bids should be complete
This is the wish in English,
Deepening mutual recognition
This is Sadhana in English,
The co-wife should not be a foreigner, nor the queen
This is the feeling of English.
Tatsam, Tadbhav, country foreign
Embraces all colours,
as you wish to speak
The same sweet, the same pleasing,
taking on new meaning
On the soil of every state,
‘Khali-Yeli-Bom-Marti’
At Bombay’s Chowpatty,
The new girl left from Chowrangi
Preeti-Piyasi is English,
You look very much like me
‘Bhalo-Bashi’ is English.
English, the favourite of the upper classes
English is the language of the people,
will eliminate class discrimination
English is her friend,
currents in the ocean
English is a confluence of all
Beyond words, sounds, and scripts
A trust that is unique,
Ganges and Cauvery stream
English is mixed with,
East-West/ Lotus-Petal
English builds bridges.
-Girja Kumar Mathur
