Friends, today it is important to know about Major Dhyan Chand. He was born on 29 August 1905 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Dhyan Chand joined the army at the age of 16. Dhyan Chand was earlier known as Dhyan Singh. He often used to practice hockey in the moonlight, due to which the word Chand was added to his name and later it became Chand. He played in the army regiment from 1922 to 1926 and drew everyone’s attention towards his magical game.
Indian hockey star Dhyan Chand played a key role in India winning three consecutive gold medals in the Olympic Games in 1928, 1932 and 1936. His career spanned from 1926 to 1948 and he represented India in 185 matches and scored over 400 goals during this period. He was a member of the first Indian Overseas Army team that toured New Zealand in 1926. He was honoured with the Padma Bhushan award, India’s third highest civilian honour, by the Government of India in 1956. He breathed his last on 3 December 1979 in Delhi.
