India’s great freedom fighter, social reformer and politician Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. Gandhi Jayanti is a national holiday across the country. Mahatma Gandhi has been given the status of Father of the Nation for his sacrifice and important contribution to the independence of the country. The people of the country called him Bapu. On Gandhi Jayanti, various competitions like debate, speech and essay writing are organized in various educational institutions of India. Here we are giving short and easy speech on Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti which can get you reward.

Gandhi Jayanti Speech 2024: Speech on Gandhi Jayanti on 2 October

My greetings to all the respected teachers and dear friends. Today, on the auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, I am presenting a speech based on his struggling and inspirational life.

Gave us freedom without sword and shield, Saint of Sabarmati, you did wonders. Friends, it was the charismatic leadership of Mahatma Gandhi which forced the powerful British rule which had been ruling India for 200 years without taking up arms, to leave India.

World famous personalities like Martin Luther King, Einstein, Nelson Mandela were influenced by the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi. The world’s great scientist, Albert Einstein, had said about Gandhiji that, “The future generations will find it difficult to believe that such a person made of flesh and blood ever came to this earth.”

Today, October 2, is the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the great freedom fighter and most respected politician of the 19th century, with the same charismatic leadership and brilliant personality. The whole country is paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary. Remembering their struggle for independence.

Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. His full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. His father’s name was Karamchand Gandhi and mother’s name was Putlibai. Putlibai was a very religious woman and in her childhood she used to tell stories of truthful people Harishchandra and Shravan Kumar to her son, Gandhiji. This attracted Gandhiji towards the importance of the principle of truth and fearlessness. He kept these things learned from his mother throughout his life. Gandhiji was only 13 years old when he was married to Kasturba of Porbandar. Kasturba fully supported Gandhiji in the freedom movement.

People used to call him Bapu with respect. The Government of India has declared today as a national holiday. Mahatma Gandhi’s strength was the principles of truth and non-violence. Following the path of truth and non-violence, he led many movements in the fight for independence and forced the British to leave India. His Champaran Satyagraha, Non-Cooperation Movement, Dandi Satyagraha, Quit India Movement played a big role in weakening the foundation of the British Empire.

Gandhiji gave a tremendous edge to the freedom movement with his influential personality and ideas. Gandhiji’s life itself is his message. He had said that one should not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean. If a few drops of the sea become dirty then the sea does not become dirty. Bapu also used to say that the work which can be done by yourself should not be done by others. He used to say that an eye for an eye would make the whole world blind.

Gandhiji not only fought for the freedom of the country but also worked for social reform. Gandhiji was also strongly opposed to the evils prevalent in the society like untouchability, alcoholism, caste discrimination, inequality and discrimination against women. He not only fought for independence but also fought to improve the condition of Dalits in the society and to provide them equal rights. Dalit movement took place. Raised a strong voice against untouchability.

The whole world saluted his principle of non-violence, which is why the whole world celebrates today as International Non-Violence Day.

He took a vow never to eat meat and never to tell lies. Truth was the biggest fundamental quality of his life. His life was based on the moral values of truth and non-violence. Bapu used to say that one should not change one’s determination again and again, this weakens the mind. Bapu’s thoughts have always guided not only India but the entire world and will continue to do so in future also. In the coming times, Gandhi’s philosophy and his ideas will become more relevant in dealing with global problems. Today we should take a pledge to implement his ideas in our lives.

Jai Hind. Victory to India. Long live Mother India.
