The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued rules and regulations for the examinations of all types of courses coming under SWAYAM courses for universities. At present, the examinations of SWAYAM courses are conducted through the National Testing Agency (NTA) and National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL). Releasing the framework of the examinations of SWAYAM courses, UGC Secretary Prof. Manish R Joshi has said that these rules have been issued by UGC and the Union Ministry of Education after the state level awareness campaign on this subject. Vice Chancellors of universities and principals of colleges, SWAYAM coordinators and charioteers created under the new education policy were invited in the awareness programs. After the new rules, the candidates of SWAYAM courses will also be able to participate in the examination conducted by their university. There will be a facility to take the exam in your own university. UGC Chairman M Jagadeesh Kumar said, ‘The meetings held in the last one year have revealed the growing interest of universities in conducting SWAYAM courses. Universities are taking a lot of interest in transferring credits of SWAYAM courses and making its examinations more flexible. He said that currently the end term exams for SWAYAM courses are conducted by NTA and NPTEL. Kumar said that under the new rules, students completing SWAYAM courses will now have the option of giving the SWAYAM course examination in their university itself.’
UGC released new admission process for distance, open and online courses
These meetings reflected the growing interest of universities in adopting SWAYAM courses for credit transfer and the need for a more flexible examination process. Currently, the final term proctored examinations for SWAYAM courses are conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and National Technology Enhanced Learning Programme (NPTEL). Kumar said that under the new framework, students completing courses on SWAYAM will now have the option of taking SWAYAM exams at their university. Not only this, in the new framework, students who are unable to clear or appear in the SWAYAM exams can re-take the exam in the next semester. Universities adopting the UGC credit framework can now allow their students to take SWAYAM exams at their institutions. This will make it easier for students to combine online education with their regular academic program.
