Ragging still occurs in colleges and universities. However, the University Board is very cautious about this. In this regard, UGC (University Grants Commission) has made new rules. The UGC has considered the safety of the students as its priority. In such a situation, strict instructions have been issued to prevent ragging in higher educational institutions. Accordingly, all organizations have been instructed to take necessary steps. If they do not do so, strict action will be taken against them.

New rules shared on the website

The UGC has uploaded all the rules on the website. The UGC said in its notice that in view of the decision of the Supreme Court dated 08.05.2009 in Civil Appeal No. 887/2009 The Grants Commission Act, 1956 Regulations, 2009 have been notified to prevent the problem of ragging by doing. These regulations are available on UGC websites www.ugc.gov.in and www.antiragging.in.

Helpline number for students

Along with this, UGC has also started a helpline number for students. In such a situation, if a student is harassed by seniors, then he can complain to the UGC using a helpline number or email. UGC has been told that immediate action will be taken on this. Apart from this, workshops and seminars will also be organized in these institutions to make students aware that ragging is a crime and it can have a bad effect on the mental health of the students facing ragging. The UGC believes that ragging can be stopped if there is a good relationship between junior and senior.

The rules will be strict.

Many times ragging incidents of suicide by students have come to light. In such a situation, a special committee will be formed to understand the condition and problem of children, which will help children get out of such situation. Apart from this, universities and colleges have also been advised to seek the help of legal experts. If they do not follow these rules then action will be taken against them.
