Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday questioned the High Court Judge Yashwant Verma not having an FIR in the case of cash recovered from Delhi’s residence and said that there is no cover against the independence investigation of the judiciary. Dhankhar said that if the same matter had been at the house of a common man, the investigation would have been at a very fast pace. PTI quoted Dhankar as saying, “If this incident had been at his (common man’s) house, the speed of investigation would have been like an electronic rocket. Now it is not even a cattle car.” Dhankhar insisted that there cannot be a complete guarantee against the independence investigation of the judiciary and such a cover would be the sure way to demolish an institution. The Vice President also questioned the investigation of the three-member in-house committee and said that the report lacks legal basis. He said, “What else can the committee do? The committee can recommend more and more. For whom? And for whom? The only action that we have for judges, the only action that can eventually be taken, can be done by Parliament (through the removal of the judge).” He said that the investigation is the area of the executive, not the judiciary. He said, “It is the law of the country that it is necessary to inform the police about every cognizable offense, and not to do so, and not to inform the cognizable offense is a crime. Therefore, all of you must be surprised why there was no FIR.”
