On behalf of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Center of Excellence-Translation, Indian Language, Culture and Arts Cell of Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, organized an online webinar on English Journalism Day on Monday (May 30) on “New trends of English journalism”. On this occasion, as the Chief Guest, Course Director and Dean of Student Welfare, Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi, Prof. Pramod Kumar said that the news related to positive and change in society is being well liked by the readers.
He said that English journalism, which has gone digital, has created a large section of readers and viewers through positive news. He advocated positive news in the media. Said that former President APJ Abdul Kalam had also talked about giving prominence to news that bring change in the country and society.
In the presidential address Vice Chancellor Prof. Nirmala S. Maurya said that journalism should be for the benefit of the society. Its social concern is necessary, only then the country will get its benefit. Describing the mythological and age-old journalism, he said that the form of journalism before independence was literary, later this genre changed into a new periphery and became multidimensional. With the passage of time, its paradigm also changed. There is a trend of sensationalism going on in journalism, it needs to be considered. Along with technology, the design and appearance of newspapers have also changed, which is attracting the readers.
Senior journalist Hemant Tiwari said that on one hand English journalism has expanded and on the other there has been a transition in its language. He said that even today most of the channels are of English, they have become their own language. Expressing concern over the language of social media, he said that there is no regulation on it.
In the webinar, Deputy Director (Information) Raj Bhavan, Uttarakhand, Dr. Nitin Upadhyay said that English journalism cannot be separated from the public language. Regionalization of newspapers is taking the reader away from many big news. The reason for this is to release more and more versions.
