The election process for the post of Chancellor is going on in the University of Oxford. The university has released the list of 38 finalist candidates. Among these, one name which has attracted everyone’s attention is Ankur Shiv Bhandari. Ankur Shiv Bhandari is of Indian origin. He is the first Indian-origin mayor of Bracknell Forest in Berkshire. Apart from this, international entrepreneur Professor Nirpal Singh Paul Bhangal and medical expert Prateek Tarwadi are also included in the list.
Ankur Shiv Bhandari, who is leading the race for chancellor, was born in Faridabad, Haryana. He received his early education from St. Anthony’s Secondary School and DAV Public School, Sector-14, Faridabad. After this he obtained a graduate degree in Business Studies from the College of Business Studies (now Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies), Delhi University. He then moved to the United Kingdom in the year 2001 to pursue MBA and completed his studies at Leicester Business School, Damontfort University. He also did postgraduate studies in teaching and has a postgraduate degree in Law.
The University of Oxford has also dropped many big names from the race for the post of Chancellor, which also includes the name of former Pakistan Prime Minister and cricketer Imran Khan. Apart from him, former Conservative Party leader Lord William Hague and former Labor politician Lord Peter Mandelson are among the senior politicians who have been declared ineligible after the selection process.
The post of Chancellor is very respectable. Lord Patten, who has held the role for 21 years, is set to retire at the end of Trinity term in 2024. His successor will be selected through an online vote by University staff and graduates. The selection of the new Chancellor is not only part of the traditions of the University of Oxford, but will also play an important role in shaping the academic and global future of this prestigious institution.
