After getting bail from the Supreme Court, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is now preparing to take over the party’s campaign. Shortly after the court order, Haryana unit chief of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Sushil Gupta said on Friday that the party chief will campaign in the state where people are expecting change.
Gupta lauded the Supreme Court’s decision to grant bail to the Delhi chief minister and said, “We will now fight the elections with double strength. Kejriwal ji will soon start his campaign in Haryana.” The AAP is fighting the Haryana Assembly elections on October 5 on its own. Gupta said people are waiting to oust the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from power.
He said, ‘Development has come to a standstill during the BJP rule. People are waiting for October 5 to oust them from power.’ He further said, ‘People want change, they want to elect an honest government that can ensure good education and health facilities, 24×7 power supply and overall development.’
“People want to bring AAP to power and we will win the elections,” Gupta told PTI. The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to Kejriwal in a corruption case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the excise policy scam, saying prolonged incarceration was an improper deprivation of liberty.
Kejriwal gets bail
The bench on Friday granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal in the corruption case registered by the CBI in connection with the excise policy ‘scam’, saying that prolonged imprisonment amounts to unjust deprivation of liberty. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjwal Bhuyan granted bail to Kejriwal on a bond of Rs 10 lakh and two sureties.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Kejriwal on March 21 in the excise policy case. He was granted interim bail on May 10 to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections and has been in jail since he surrendered on June 2.
The apex court directed Kejriwal not to make any public comment on the matter and said that the terms and conditions applicable in the ED case will be applicable in this case also.
While granting him bail in the ED case, the apex court had said that Kejriwal cannot go to his office or the Delhi Secretariat and unless he has to do so in some urgent matter, he will have to take permission from the Lieutenant Governor.
