Elections announced today in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, by-elections on 50 seats also

The dates of assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand will be announced today. This information was given by the Election Commission. It was told that ECI will hold a press conference on Tuesday at 3:30 pm. During this period, dates for by-elections on 50 seats will also be announced. Let us tell you that the tenure of Maharashtra Assembly is ending on 26 November 2024. The tenure of Jharkhand Assembly will end on January 5, 2025. Voting has been held in a single phase in the last 2 assembly elections in Maharashtra. It is possible that this time also voting may be conducted in a single phase. At the same time, there has been a trend of voting in 5 phases in Jharkhand. It is believed that it will be retained in 2024.

If we talk about Maharashtra, in the year 2014, voting was done on all the 288 seats here on 15th October. In the year 2019, voting was held in one phase on 30 November. Whereas in Jharkhand, in 2014, voting was held on 25 November, 2 December, 9 December, 14 December and 20 December. In the year 2019, voting was held on 30 November, 7 December, 12 December, 16 December and 20 December. It is known that at present there is a Mahayuti coalition government in Maharashtra which includes Shiv Sena, BJP and NCP Ajit Pawar faction. If we look at Jharkhand, there is a government led by the Grand Alliance i.e. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). Congress, RJD and Left parties are also included in this.

Struggle over seat sharing between coalition parties

Even before the announcement of election dates, political turmoil has increased in both the states. A tussle has started between different alliance parties regarding seat sharing. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday said the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led alliance will contest all 81 seats in the upcoming assembly elections. Soren expressed confidence in the party’s election preparations after the JMM Central Committee meeting. He assured that the alliance will regain power in the state. At the same time, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale said that the ruling alliance in Maharashtra, Mahayuti, should give some seats to his Republican Party of India (A) in the upcoming assembly elections. Asked whether he would decide on continuing in the NDA if his request was not accepted, Athawale said he would remain with the ruling alliance.

BJP had held a core group meeting yesterday regarding Maharashtra.

Top BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party chief JP Nadda, had held a meeting of the party’s core group on Monday in view of the Maharashtra Assembly elections. Maharashtra BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and party national general secretary Vinod Tawde and some other leaders participated in the meeting. He discussed his campaign strategy for next month’s assembly elections in the state. Sources said the BJP wants to mobilize Other Backward Classes (OBCs) along with other communities to take on Congress’s Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). The MVA comprises the Congress, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
