Wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s uncle Mahavir Phogat has expressed displeasure over her decision to enter politics. He said, ‘I wanted Vinesh to focus on winning the gold medal in the 2028 Olympic Games. She should have focused on achieving her Olympic target.’ In an interview to India Today TV, Mahavir said that I wanted Vinesh to play in one more Olympics. She should win the gold medal. That’s why I am against her decision to enter politics. It is known that Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia have joined the Congress a few days ago. Vinesh is also contesting the election from Julana assembly seat on a Congress ticket.
According to the report, Mahavir Phogat said that when a player enters politics, all hopes are lost. He said, ‘The children are taking their own decisions. It depends on them. My duty was to raise them by nurturing them. I think at this age Vinesh could have participated in another Olympics. I wanted her to win a gold medal.’ Keep in mind that Mahavir Phogat’s daughter Babita Phogat joined the BJP in the year 2019. The party made her a candidate from the Charkhi Dadri assembly seat. But, she lost.

She later announced her retirement from the sport. Vinesh hails from Balali in Charkhi Dadri district, while her in-laws are in Julana. Bakhta Kheda village in Julana is the native village of her husband Somveer Rathi. Addressing the gathering at Bakhta Kheda village, Vinesh said, “The land of Jind is historic, the people here are very brave. It does not matter whether I win or lose the election. This is our home and I will stay here.”
