Congress leader and wrestler Bajrang Punia has hit back at former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. He said on Sunday, “The problem between Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and BJP is that we joined Congress. If we had joined BJP, we would have been called patriots. But, since we have joined Congress, they are calling us traitors.” He said that we are with our leader Rahul Gandhi and his struggle. Our party is raising the voice of all sections. Be it farmers, youth or sportspersons. He said that I am an athlete and a farmer’s son. According to the responsibility given by the party, I think I can raise the concerns of the farmers in a better way.
Bajrang Punia was asked a question about Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini’s statement on Vinesh Phogat. In response to this, he said, ‘If it is easy to defeat Vinesh, then why is CM Saini looking for a safe seat for himself? If he thinks that anyone can defeat Vinesh Phogat, then ask him to contest from Julana. He is welcome to contest from Julana. He is the Chief Minister of the state and he can do anything.’ On the question related to the alliance, Punia said that if BJP has a problem with the alliance of Congress and AAP, then why are they in alliance at the Center? They have 240 seats. They should sit in the opposition.
‘If BJP is against the alliance, then…’
Bajrang Punia said that we are moving forward strongly with the parties of the India Alliance. If BJP is against the alliance, then they should also sit in the opposition. It is known that Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh had said on Saturday, ‘Congress used wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia as pawns in their conspiracy to control WFI and attack BJP. The BJP leader said that they had defeated Congress’ Deepender Hooda in the 2012 WFI elections, so they have a grudge against them. On the protest over allegations of sexual harassment, he said, ‘All this was a conspiracy to gain control of the Wrestling Federation of India and attack the BJP and its ideology. This team of Rahul, Congress keeps doing this kind of work.’
