Assembly elections have been announced in Maharashtra but there is no talk of seat sharing in Mahavikas Aghadi. Now the constituent parties of the alliance have also started accusing each other. Elections are to be held on 20th November and in such a situation, there is pressure on all the parties for distribution of seats. Meanwhile, a statement by Uddhav Thackeray has given further strength to the speculations that all is not well in the alliance. He has said that the alliance should not break due to seat sharing. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said that Congress does not have the ability to take decisions. Thackeray has also expressed hope that seat distribution will be done by Saturday.
Sanjay Raut on Friday expressed disappointment over the delay in seat-sharing talks in the opposition alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra and claimed that Congress state unit leaders are “not capable of taking decisions.” Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Raut said that a consensus has been reached among the MVA constituents on 200 out of the total 288 seats in the Maharashtra Assembly. The MVA consists of Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar).
Rajya Sabha MP Raut said that he spoke to Congress general secretaries KC Venugopal and Mukul Wasnik and party in-charge for Maharashtra Ramesh Chennithala on Friday morning on seat sharing. He said that he will also talk to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the day. Raut said, “The pending decision should be taken soon. There is very little time left. Maharashtra Congress leaders are not capable of taking decisions. They have to send the list to Delhi again and again and then discussions take place. A decision will have to be taken as soon as possible.”
What did Congress say?
Maharashtra unit of Congress president Nana Patole on Friday said there is a deadlock among the constituents over 25 to 30 seats and the party unit will accept any decision of the high command on the issue. Patole told reporters that talks regarding seat sharing in MVA ended on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference here, Thackeray said the political scenario has changed in Maharashtra and the people have decided to bring the opposition MVA to power in the assembly elections to be held on November 20. In view of the prolonged talks between MVA parties for the Maharashtra Assembly elections, the former Chief Minister cautioned, “Bargaining between allies should not be allowed to reach the point of breakdown.”
