Haryana Assembly Elections: Congress MPs dreaming of contesting the Haryana Assembly elections have got a shock. The party has made it clear that no MP will be allowed to contest the elections. With this announcement, discussions have intensified regarding Kumari Selja and Randeep Surjewala. Actually, both the MPs had expressed their desire to contest the assembly elections. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party has targeted the Congress over factionalism. It has also challenged to declare Selja as the Chief Ministerial candidate.
The special thing is that this announcement has come at a time when there was speculation that factionalism is going on in Haryana Congress regarding senior leaders Bhupendra Singh Hooda and Shailaja. Both the leaders were also seen making separate programs and announcements.
Congress’ Haryana in-charge Deepak Babaria said on Wednesday that no party MP will be allowed to contest the assembly elections. When Babaria was asked that some MPs are also interested in contesting the elections, he told reporters, “No one will be allowed.”
He said that more than 2500 applications have been received for the 90 assembly seats of the state and many people have been interviewed. In response to a question, he also said that the tickets of those MLAs against whom there is an atmosphere on the ground can be cut. Voting for all 90 assembly seats in Haryana will be held on October 1. Counting of votes will be held on October 4.
Shailja and Surjewala were preparing for the assembly elections
The special thing is that Selja and Surjewala are considered opponents of former Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda’s camp. A few days ago, Selja had expressed her desire to contest the assembly elections in a conversation with the editors of the news agency in PTI’s special program ‘4 Parliament Street’ and said that she is willing to work in the state, but the final decision in this regard has to be taken by the Congress high command.
Selja has been a Lok Sabha member 5 times and a Rajya Sabha member once. She won from Sirsa in the 2024 elections. It was believed that she was also staking claim for the CM face of Congress in Haryana.
Rajya Sabha member Surjewala had posted on ‘X’ on Tuesday, ‘Kaithal is my temple…will decorate it again, will decorate it again.’ Surjewala has represented Kaithal assembly constituency in the past. When asked if Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala’s son can also contest the elections, Babaria said, ‘It is possible, if he wants, he will contest.’
BJP tightened its taunt
After this announcement, BJP also took a dig at Congress. The party wrote on Instagram, ‘Bhupendra Hooda again did his thing, dealt with Selja along with Deepender. Bhupendra Hooda is the crocodile of the pond of Congress, who has eaten all the fishes of the pond, but still his stomach is not full. Bhupendra Hooda never allowed Haryana to progress, nor any other leader in the Congress party. After Kumari Selja was eliminated, now it is Randeep Surjewala’s turn, because whether it is the center or the state, only nepotism prevails in the Congress.’
