The incident is of 1973. Indira Gandhi’s government was in power at the centre and Bansilal was the Chief Minister of Haryana. Lalit Narayan Mishra was the Railway Minister in Indira’s government. Bansilal and Lalit Narayan Mishra were very close to Indira Gandhi. These two leaders were also friends. During those days, Railway Minister Lalit Mishra hosted a party at his official residence, in which many prominent personalities of the society including Indira supporters, senior Congress leaders and Bollywood actors were invited to the feast. Chief Minister Bansilal also attended that feast.
During the dinner, Lalit Narayan Mishra was introducing everyone to Raj Kapoor, the biggest actor of that time and the showman of Bollywood. Raj Kapoor was sitting next to Bansilal but Bansilal was not reacting. Instead, he was praising the food. Bansilal’s principal secretary SK Mishra has mentioned this incident in his book ‘Flying in High Wides’. He has written that when Bansilal did not show any expression on his face, Lalit Mishra insisted that this is Raj Kapoor… Raj Kapoor. On this, Bansilal said that you have a business in Faridabad, then Raj Kapoor replied no.
26 years later, there is a ruckus in the house of former CM, then brother was fighting with brother; now brother vs sister
Mishra has written in the book that after this Bansilal asked what do you do? To this Raj Kapoor replied- I am an actor. Bansilal asked again without blinking- in which drama do you work? Hearing this Raj Kapoor was taken aback. Then seeing the seriousness of the matter Lalit Narayan Mishra intervened and tried to cool down the atmosphere and laughingly said- it is amazing that you do not know Raj Kapoor. He is the biggest artist of the film world.
Haryana never liked alliances, even Devi Lal and Bansilal did not survive
Actually, Bansilal was simple by nature and was far away from glamour. He used to come to office wearing unironed clothes. He was not interested in films. According to his secretary SK Mishra, he did not watch films. According to Mishra, Bansilal had seen only one film in his life- Doctor Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani. This film was released in 1946. This is a film based on the life of a doctor. Dr. Kotnis goes to China to provide medical help to the soldiers in the Second World War, where he falls in love with a young woman. Let us tell you that Bansilal was a veteran Congress leader. He was the Chief Minister of Haryana four times.
