Tension has started in Maharashtra’s opposition alliance Mahavikas Aghadi over the post of Chief Minister. It is being said that Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress are reacting after senior leader Sharad Pawar gave a hint regarding his close associate Jayant Patil. Voting is to be held in the state on November 20. According to the program issued by ECI i.e. Election Commission of India, counting of votes will take place on November 23.
What did Pawar say?
Addressing a rally at Islampur in Sangli district on Wednesday as part of the NCP (SP)’s ‘Shiv Swarajya Yatra’ campaign, Pawar said it was everyone’s wish that Jayant Patil take the ‘responsibility of rebuilding the state’. Patil heads the party’s Maharashtra unit. It is reported that as soon as he stood up to speak during the rally, people raised slogans calling him the future CM. However, Patil scolded him and said, ‘One cannot become chief minister just by doing sit-ups.’
What did MVA say?
According to the Indian Express report, party spokesperson Sanjay Raut said, ‘If Sharad Pawar has indicated to support Jayant Patil’s name for the post of CM, we will discuss with him.’ Raut also said that Pawar has not given any such indication.
He said, ‘Some time ago he had suggested the name of Rohit Pawar for an important post in the party. However, there cannot be two Chief Ministers in one party. Supriya Sule’s name is always discussed for the post of CM. The name of Jitendra Ahwad also remains in discussion. 5-6 people cannot become Chief Minister. Raut said that the Uddhav Sena itself has been asking the MVA for the last two months to announce the name of the CM candidate, which the Congress and Sharad Pawar’s party have not yet accepted.
Congress leader Nitin Raut said, ‘Sharad Pawar has said that Jayant Patil has the qualities to become CM. Every party talks about its leader in this way, but ultimately the Congress leadership will take the decision.
What did Pawar say now?
On Thursday, Pawar said on the issue of CM post, ‘This issue is over for us. When we held a press conference, we gave clarification on this. Both Uddhav Thackeray and I were present in this conference. He said, ‘There is no point in talking for the post of CM. Let the election results come, then we will talk about it. Regarding Patil, he said, ‘Jayant Patil is taking the decision regarding seat sharing. He has been given a big responsibility.
