Ever since reading this novel, which came out in 2008, filmmaker Blessy wanted to adapt it on screen. In 2010, he had announced to cast Prithviraj Sukumaran in the film. The shooting of the film was to start in Dubai and Rajasthan in the same year, but it did not happen. In 2012, Blessy said that the budget required for its production was too high for Malayalam cinema. In 2015, the film was announced again after businessman KG Abraham came on board the project. But in the meantime, problems like dates etc. and many pending projects of the actor-director also came in the way. In 2017, the casting was finalized with actors from Somalia and Haiti. The photography of the film was carried out between 2018 and 2022. Now the film will be released in theaters on March 28 in five languages Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.

‘Aadu Jeevitam’ is the story of a Malayali migrant labourer, Najeeb Mohammed. He goes to Saudi Arabia for a job and gets lost. A farm owner makes him his slave and makes him graze goats. Watching the trailer of the film, it seems as if Najeeb and two other slaves along with him set out to cross the desert to escape this hell-like life.
