Karni Sena has once again approached the court regarding the film being made on the history of Rajasthan. Regarding Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film ‘Prithviraj’, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has asked the central government whether the censor board has given a certificate for the release of the film ‘Prithviraj’. The court’s order came on Thursday in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a stay on the film’s release.
The National Vice President of Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena (Women’s Wing) and advocate Sangeeta Singh, practicing in the Supreme Court, has filed a petition alleging that the title of the film has been changed to ‘Prithviraj’ instead of ‘Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan’. This sends a wrong message to the society. The religious sentiments and beliefs of the Rajput community are also hurt.
The court has fixed the matter for hearing in the week starting February 21. Justice A.R. Masoodi and Justice N.K. Johri passed this order on a PIL filed by Karni Sena Vice President Sangeeta Singh.
This is not the first time that Akshay Kumar’s film has been opposed. In 2017, Karni Sena also opposed Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’, after which the film’s name was changed to ‘Padmavat’.
The petition against the film ‘Prithviraj’ states that the defendants have tried to defame, humiliate the historical warrior Hindu Raja, who had sacrificed his life for the security of India. Along with this, objection has also been raised on the dress worn by actress Manushi Chillar in the film.
After hearing the petitioner’s arguments, the bench asked the central government whether the film ‘Prithviraj’ has been approved by the Central Board of Film Certification or not and listed the matter for hearing in the week beginning February 21, 2022.
