Shadab Khan, son of late actor Amjad Khan, who played Gabbar Singh in the film “Sholay”, has answered a question whether he has been his father’s lucky mascot. Shadab was born on the same day Amjad Khan signed the film ‘Sholay’. This film got him immense fame and he became the most popular villain of the country. In the same interview, Shadab also told that Amjad Khan did not have the money to discharge his wife Shaila Khan then.
Didn’t even have money to discharge
Shadab told that his father Amjad Khan had taken ₹ 400 from producer Chetan Anand and then he got his wife discharged. The 1975 action-adventure film Sholay was directed by Ramesh Sippy. Stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini and Jaya Bachchan were seen playing important roles in this film. It is counted among the best films of India.
Amjad had taken money from Chetan Anand
In an interview with TOI, Shadab said, ‘Yes, but in the hospital where I was born, we did not have the money to get my mother discharged from the hospital. She started crying. My father was nowhere to be seen in the hospital, he was embarrassed to even show his face. Then he did Chetan Anand’s film ‘Hindustan Ki Kasam’ and he held my father’s hand. Chetan Anand saab gave Rs 400 to father so that he could bring mother home.

Shadab also recalled an anecdote from the release of Sholay. He told, ‘When the role of Gabbar Singh in Sholay came to my father, Salim Khan saab recommended my father’s name to Ramesh Sippy. The Ramgarh shots were to be shot on the outskirts of Bangalore where my father boarded the flight, but the turbulence that day was so high that the flight was landed back 7 times.
