The ashes of Bollywood’s disco king late Bappi Lahiri were immersed in the river Ganges. According to information given by PTI, Bappi Da’s son Bappa Lahiri, wife Chitrani and daughter Rema Lahiri immersed the ashes of the famous music director and singer 16 days after his death at Outram Ghat in Kolkata.
The family members brought the ashes of the late singer to the ghat in an equipped car and performed religious rituals amidst the chanting of ‘mantra’ (prayer) by the priest. During this, West Bengal Minister Sujit Bose was also present on behalf of the state to help the family. The late musician’s wife Chitrani Lahiri, son Bappa Lahiri and other family members had reached Kolkata to pay tribute to the disco king. Bappi’s father Aparesh Lahiri’s ashes were also immersed in the river.
Singer-composer Bappi Lahiri, who popularized disco music in cinema in the 80s and 90s in India, passed away on February 15. The late singer breathed his last at Criticare Hospital in Juhu. According to the information, Bappi Da was admitted in the hospital for about a month.
Bappi ‘Da’ as he was called by most of his colleagues in Bollywood, entered the world of Hindi film music in the 1980s and became famous among teenage Indians of that era with his disco numbers. His music was also very famous in the former Soviet Union and many Asian countries.
