There was a time in the Hindi film industry when the voices of actresses were dubbed. Dubbing means that their real voices were not used in films, but their dialogues were spoken by voice over artists. You will be surprised to know that the voices of Rani Mukherji, Bipasha Basu, Ameesha Patel, Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone and Nargis Fakhri have been dubbed and this dubbing was done by voice over artist Mona Ghosh. Mona Ghosh shared her experience in a recent interview. She told that she used to get threats from actresses.
This actress had threatened to kill me
Mona Ghosh told in an interview to ‘The Motor Mouth’ that Bipasha Basu once said to her, “If you dub my voice again, I will kill you.” Mona had dubbed Bipasha’s voice in films like ‘Raj’ and ‘Jism’. Mona said, “She did not realize that this decision is not mine. I do not go to anyone and say, ‘Can I dub for Bipasha?’ Makers come to me and this is my profession, so why would I refuse them?”
Rani Mukherjee was furious
Mona not only dubbed Bipasha’s voice but also Rani Mukherji’s voice in the film ‘Ghulam’. However, Rani Mukherji did not like this. When the film was released, Rani got angry after hearing Mona’s voice in the film. Mona said, “Rani says in every interview that she did not like my voice. I understand because we become so accustomed to hearing our own voice that if someone else becomes our voice, we start feeling strange. We feel that this is not me?”
Karan Johar gave me a chance
Let us tell you, Rani’s voice is very different. In such a situation, Aamir Khan and director Vikram Bhatt decided not to take a risk with Rani’s voice in ‘Ghulam’ and got her voice dubbed. However, when Karan Johar signed Rani for his film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, he gave a chance to her voice. People liked Rani’s voice in ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ so much that after that her voice stopped being dubbed.
