The controversy surrounding South filmmaker Manimekalai’s documentary film ‘Kaali’ is not taking its name to stop. Recently he released a poster of his film. In which Maa Kali was shown smoking a cigarette and a flag supporting LGBTQ is also visible in her hand. This poster has created a lot of ruckus on social media.

Lawyer Vineet Jindal has filed a complaint against Manimekalai. This complaint has been registered against Leena Manimekalai in North West Delhi. Now the reaction of filmmaker Leena has also come on the whole controversy.

What did Leena Manimekalai say? The director of the film, Leena, tweeted that the film revolves around the events of the evening when Kaali appears and walks the streets of Toronto. If you see the picture, don’t put the hashtag “arrest leena manimekalai” and put the hashtag “love you leena manimekalai”.

Along with this, Leena while talking to BBC in Tamil also said, “I have nothing to lose. I want to be with a voice that speaks without any fear… as long as it is. If it costs my life, I will give it.” Despite this clarification of Leena, the displeasure of social media users did not subside.

Nusrat Jahan reacted: On the other hand, actress Nusrat Jahan said on this whole controversy in India Today Conclave 2022 that I would say don’t bring religion in the middle. Don’t make everything sellable. It is very easy to sit in your drawing room and watch the whole spicy story. But if you ask my opinion, I have always supported creativity separately. Personality is supported separately, but it is also believed that religious sentiments cannot be hurt.

I keep creativity and religion separate: Nusrat further said that I cannot hurt anyone’s religious sentiments because I follow my religion in my own way and you in your own way. If you are doing something creatively, then it is your responsibility. I will not say that you are right or wrong. If you ask my opinion, I keep creativity and religion separate.

Filmmaker’s reaction: Filmmaker Ashok Pandit has also given his reaction on this controversy. Ashok Pandit wrote whether the Supreme Court, which had convicted Nupur Sharma for Kanhaiyalal’s murder, would now take up the case of a filmmaker who abused Kali, the goddess of Hindus, put him behind bars. Will the Begum of UrbanNaxal gang and Lutyensmedia condemn this?
