Mumbai. TV’s popular show ‘Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ has been surrounded by controversies for the last several years. After Disha Vakani left the show due to personal reasons, many actors including Shelesh Lodha, Jennifer Mistry, Neha Mehta left the show and made serious allegations against the makers. This has affected the TRP of the show. Amidst the falling popularity of the show, the makers recently approached the Delhi High Court. The makers filed a petition in the Delhi High Court and asked to take action against those YouTube channels, social media accounts, websites, which were using the videos and dialogues of the show.
Hearing the appeal of the makers of ‘Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’, the Delhi High Court has issued a restraining order against several YouTube channels, websites and social media accounts. After this order, these people will not be able to violate the intellectual property i.e. intellectual rights of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.
Justice Mini Pushkaran passed this order on August 14, which covers unauthorized merchandise sales, copying of characters and creation of AI photos, deepfakes and animated videos, i.e. no one other than the makers can create such content. This order also applies to unknown defendants.
According to Bar and Bench, after hearing this petition, the court said in the order that no person, owner, employee or agent is allowed to host, stream, broadcast, communicate, present the content and dialogues of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah in any manner. This will be considered a violation of copyright rules and violation of registered trademark.
Neela Film Productions, the makers of ‘Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma’, told the High Court that they have the rights to the title, characters, dialogues and other intellectual property of the show. They said that various social media accounts, websites and channels are violating these rights. They are selling their products in an unauthorized manner and are even making videos, animations, deepfakes and pornographic content using the characters of the show. The court admitted that Neela Film Productions has a strong case.
