New Delhi. Renowned Bharatanatyam dancer Yamini Krishnamurthy died at the age of 84 at Apollo Hospital due to age-related ailments. Krishnamurthy’s manager and secretary Ganesh told PTI, “She was suffering from age-related problems and was undergoing treatment for the last seven months. She was admitted in the ICU.”
Yamini Krishnamurthy’s body will be brought to her institute ‘Yamini School of Dance’ at 9 am on Sunday. No information has been received yet about Yamini Krishnamurthy’s last rites. The news of her death has left her fans heartbroken. The news of Yamini Krishnamurthy’s death has sent a wave of mourning into the industry.

Yamini Krishnamurthy was born in Madanapalle in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. She grew up in Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu. Yamini Krishnamurthy debuted in Madras in 1957. She had the honour of being the Asthana Nartaki (resident dancer) of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam. She took Bharatanatyam to a new height in the industry. She is also known as the torch bearer of the ‘Kuchipudi’ dance form.
