The ashes of Bollywood’s ‘King of Disco’ Bappi Lahiri were immersed in the Hooghly, a tributary of the Ganges, on Thursday. His son Bappa Lahiri, wife Chitrani and daughter Reema Lahiri carried the ashes of the famous music director and singer on a boat from Outram Ghat in Kolkata on his last journey and after 16 days his ashes were immersed in the water of the holy river. .
The family took off from Mumbai earlier in the day and performed religious rituals amid the chanting of ‘mantras’ (prayers) by a priest. West Bengal minister Sujit Bose was also present on behalf of the state to help the family.
Let us tell you, the ashes of Bappi’s father Aparesh Lahiri were also immersed in this river, this river is considered sacred by Hindus. Born on 27 November 1952 to Bengali classical singer Aparesh and Bansuri Lahiri, Bappi Lahiri died on 15 February in Mumbai. He died of obstructive sleep apnea.
